Resume Action Verbs & Power Words List
Choose accurate resume action verbs for leadership, analysis, delivery and collaboration, then pair each verb with specific evidence and outcomes.
Choose verbs that describe the actual action
An action verb is useful when it accurately describes what you did. Choose “analyzed” for examining evidence, “implemented” for putting a solution into use and “coordinated” for organizing work across people.
Leadership and ownership verbs
Examples include led, coached, delegated, prioritized, mentored, planned and aligned. Use them only when you genuinely had that responsibility; contributing to a team is not the same as leading it.
Analysis and problem-solving verbs
Examples include analyzed, diagnosed, evaluated, forecasted, investigated, modeled, tested and validated. Pair the verb with the question you answered, method used or decision supported.
Building and delivery verbs
Examples include built, designed, developed, implemented, launched, migrated, automated, maintained and optimized. Add the product, process or system involved and the outcome where known.
Communication and collaboration verbs
Examples include presented, explained, negotiated, documented, facilitated, partnered and advised. Make the audience, purpose or decision clear when it adds useful context.
Customer and operations verbs
Examples include resolved, supported, streamlined, processed, coordinated, fulfilled and improved. Describe the customer need, volume, process or service result rather than relying on the verb alone.
Turn verbs into achievement bullets
Use verb + task + method + outcome. For example: “Automated monthly reconciliation with spreadsheet formulas, reducing manual review time by 30%” should be used only if the work and metric are accurate.
Avoid inflated wording
Words such as revolutionized, transformed or spearheaded can sound exaggerated when the work was routine. Prefer a precise verb that reflects your actual contribution.

Build a role-specific verb list
Choose verbs that match the target vacancy and your evidence. Strong wording improves clarity, but it cannot replace a relevant accomplishment or make an unsupported claim credible.
